World Standards Day
This day is celebrated internationally each
year. The day honors the efforts of the
thousands of experts who develop voluntary standards. On October 14, in 1946 in
London the conference of national organizations for Standardization was
open where delegates from 25 countries decided to create the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Birthdays
1926, October 14. “Winnie the
Pooh’s birthday”. On this day, “Winnie the Pooh” by Alan Alexander Milne was published for the first time
1927,
October 14. Sir Roger George Moore is an English actor, perhaps best
known for his role as British secret agent James Bond in the official film series between 1973 and 1985
Winnie the Pooh’s birthday is a banner day for children. I hope, that today there aren't people who don't watch "Winne the Pooh". This cartoon was made to teach us moral principles and lows of life. By the way, there are lots of versions made by directors in many countries in the world. As for me our Russian version of this famous American cartoon is the best.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking about Sir Roger George Moore I have to say that I don't watch any series of "James Bond" at all. I don't know why, but it supposes to be a classic of cinema in its genre. I hope, one day I will watch it to be cinema-educated.
World Standards Day is celebrated internationally each year on 14 October. The day honours the efforts of the thousands of experts who develop voluntary standards within standards development organizations such as the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The aim of World Standards Day is to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers as to the importance of standardization to the global economy.
ReplyDelete14 October was specifically chosen to mark the date, in 1946, when delegates from 25 countries first gathered in London and decided to create an international organization focused on facilitating standardization. Even though ISO was formed one year later, it wasn't until 1970 that the first World Standards Day was celebrated. Each year, ISO determines a theme based on a current aspect of standardization.
Winnie the Pooh (known as Edward Bear in his early appearances in "When We Were Very Young") had a real-life career as the favorite toy of Christopher Milne (son of author A.A. Milne). The bear, given to Milne for his first birthday in 1921, still exists and can be visited in the Children's Reading Room of the New York Public Library on West 53rd Street.
ReplyDelete86 years ago today, the world was introduced to one of its most beloved children’s characters. It was October 14, 1926 when A.A. Milne‘s book Winnie the Pooh was published in England. Winnie the Pooh will always hold such a strong place in our collective childhood culture because it represents the very best of children’s imaginations. It’s what happens when little kids look at their stuffed animals and turn them into real characters, real beings to connect with. We have all been in the shoes of Christopher Robin, looking at our toys as if they were real creatures who loved us and just wanted to play.
From that vantage point, the words Milne put into Pooh’s mouth were the things that he knew little children wanted to hear. Just think about the most infamous Pooh quote, “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” Every child wants to know what someone will love them forever, that someone’s world is tied up in them.
