Bewdley Festival 25

Strip4

Bewdley Festival, now in its 25th Year, has become one of the leading arts events in Worcestershire.  It is a not for profit organisation, registered both as a charity and a company limited by guarantee, and is still entirely run by volunteers!
Those involved in starting the Festival in 1987 could hardly have envisaged the important place it now holds in the life of the Town.  Over the years, Artists from every discipline have performed to appreciative Festival audiences.  Famous musicians, dancers, poets, magicians, actors and talented speakers of widely differing persuasions have entertained, amused and enthralled audiences during each week-long October Festival.  During Festival week there are afternoon, and evening events every day with the occasional event in the morning.
Visual Arts exhibitions have embraced painting, photography, ceramics and textiles. The Festival’s community outreach programme includes school workshops and art exhibitions, family learning opportunities and events with other organisations such as local churches, civic, Society, Carnival Committee etc.
Throughout October, a separate ‘Fringe’ of events,‘Octoberfest’ – not governed by the Festival, but related by intent – are also offered in the Town: folk groups, solo artists and street theatre companies perform at various venues and add significantly to local attractions and stimulate community involvement.

  1. Pop star, composer, and songwriter John Lennon was born October 9, 1940, in Liverpool, England. Lennon met McCartney in 1957 and invited Paul to join his music group. They eventually formed the most successful songwriting partnership in musical history. Lennon left The Beatles in 1969 and later released albums with his wife Yoko Ono, and others. In 1980 he was killed by a crazed fan.

  2. In October 2012, Bewdley Festival will be celebrating its 25th Festival. The Festival will bring a range of daytime and evening events to this attractive Georgian town. In keeping with the original intention ‘to bring the best into Bewdley and to bring the best out of Bewdley’ the highly successful Festival always attracts a wide audience with its mixture of talks, comedy, drama, dance, literature, jazz, folk, classical music, art, exhibitions, workshops and a church service. Each year many household names are intermingled with specialist speakers and performers, and seasoned with a dash of local interest events. Because all our venues are small you are never far away from the best entertainers in Bewdley.

This October’s programme of the festival is available on the website: www.bewdleyfestival.org.uk

  4. Song that shaped Rock'n'Roll 'Imagine'

"Imagine" became one of the enduring anthems of John Lennon's post-Beatles work. In an interview days before his death, he made a case for the brotherhood of man and woman: "That should be credited as a Lennon/Ono song. A lot of it – the lyric and the concept –came from Yoko, but in those days I was a bit more selfish, a bit more macho, and I sort of omitted to mention her contribution, but it was right out of Grapefruit, her book; there's a whole pile of pieces about imagine this and imagine that, and I have given her credit now long overdue."

"Imagine" was recorded in July 1971 at John's home studio in Tittenhurst Park. It reached Number Three on Billboard's Hot 100 in November 1971, but wasn't a British single until 1975, when it charted in the Top 10. Following Lennon's death in December 1980, "Imagine" went to Number One in the U.K.

  5. I think Bewdley Festival is great and interesting event. Such kinds of event help people to enrich oneself culturally. But I'd like to comment on one of the parts of this festival - Bewdley Book Week.

Bewdley Book Week presents an amazing and exciting contest of wordsmiths during one week in October.

The 2012 Book Week festival began with "A Literary Lunch" in the company of the celebrated P. D. James (an English crime writer) on Tuesday October 2, and then got into full swing on Monday 15th.

There were a heady mix of local authors, chidren's writing and thriller writers. Bewdley Book Week was something more for everyone than simple contest, something like love of words and creativity.
