January 11

Milk Day

January 11th is celebrated as Milk Day. This day is special because in 1878 milk was delivered for the first time in glass bottles. Glass bottles were chosen as they kept the milk fresh and healthy which was supplied to many customers.
Earlier milk was supplied to customers in big cans which were exposed to many harmful elements. Till this day we don’t know why January 11th is known as Milk Day. Its only later that many countries started supplying milk in glass bottles. The Lester Milk Jar, which had a lid as a screw cap was the first milk “bottle” in America. It was not patented until January 29 1878.

  1. Milk is a near perfect food source loaded with nine essential nutrients needed daily to keep bodies healthy and strong. As an industry leader, DeLaval has been working to drive progress in milk production since 1883. Today, we provide sustainable dairy solutions for more than 1,000,000 dairy producers around the world – everyday.

Making a difference in the lives of more than 852 million people worldwide who suffer hunger pains everyday is a huge undertaking. FAO believes no single individual, organization or sector can solve the problem alone; therefore DeLaval has partnered with FAO to help achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals. We share knowledge, pool resources and work together to create sustainable dairy solutions impacting our customers economically, socially, environmentally and with respect for animal welfare.

    Milk in a Glass Bottle
    It holds much more,
    It's quite easy to pour.
As cold as an iceberg in the Artic Sea,
Milk is so tasty to me.
Drink a cold glass of milk,
As it races down my throat like silk.
A cool glass of milk is fun,
    Even on the run.
    Longmont Dairy Farm,
Your milk in glass bottles sets off my alarm.
Milk is the very best from you,
When it comes I say Wahoo, Thank you MOO?
