World Hello Day

November 21, 2012 is the 40th annual World Hello Day. Anyone can participate in World Hello Day simply by greeting ten people. This demonstrates the importance of personal communication for preserving peace.

World Hello Day was begun in response to the conflict between Egypt and Israel in the Fall of 1973. Since then, World Hello Day has been observed by people in 180 countries.

People around the world use the occasion of World Hello Day as an opportunity to express their concern for world peace. Beginning with a simple greeting on World Hello Day, their activities send a message to leaders, encouraging them to use communication rather than force to settle conflicts.

As a global event World Hello Day joins local participation in a global expression of peace.

31 winners of the Nobel Peace Prize are among the people who have realized World Hello Day's value as an instrument for preserving peace and as an occasion that makes it possible for anyone in the world to contribute to the process of creating peace.

Brian McCormack, a Ph.D. graduate of Arizona State University, and Michael McCormack, a graduate of Harvard University, work together to promote this annual global event.

  1. The purpose of World Hello Day is simple: to promote peace all over the world, and bridge barriers between every nationality! The day began in 1973 in response to the conflict between Israel and Egypt and since then over 180 countries have taken part in the event.

Taking part couldn't be easier. All you have to do is say hello and give a good day greeting to at least 10 people you meet! Of course this can be family and friends, but be brave: reach out to strangers (as long as you're in a public place and they seem friendly enough!) and people in the street.

There are now 180 countries involved in the attempt to foster peace throughout the world, and letters supporting the effort have been written by people such as John Glenn, Colin Powell, Kofi Annan, and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

  6. You probably already know how to say "hello" in several languages thanks to family, friends and language classes, but you can get a
little more practice with your communication skills on World Hello Day. It was established in response to the Yom Kippur War in 1973. The premise is to say hello to ten different people throughout the day in an effort to promote world peace by communicating with others. Other than celebrating World Hello Day yourself, you can also use it as a teaching tool for kids
